The Waste Management Company of the City Pikitup, provides a free bulky waste service to collect unwanted waste from households (e.g. old mattresses, old furniture, fridges etc.) in an effort to deal with the illegal dumping across the city.
The aim of this initiative is to divert recyclables away from the landfill sites (except for waste suitable for, and as required for use as daily cover material), thus increasing airspace and increasing the lifespan of existing landfills.
Residents who want to dispose bulky waste from their households are urged to contact their nearest Pikitup depots or use the nearest garden sites in their proximity. Once a resident has logged a call at any of the Pikitup’s depot, the responsible Depot Manager will book a call and arrange for a free-once a month bulky waste service to collect such waste.

Early In 2016 the Sharonlea residents from Upper Sharonlea (the properties to the north of Mahogany Road) were faced with a security dilemma as the security model which they had in place was about to expire.
After consultation with the CSRF committee (Central Sharonlea Residents Forum) a plan was put in place to merge the Upper sections with the camera surveillance and patrol system already in place.
Certain committee members from the Upper section also joined the CSRF committee to create a combined working group whilst the Upper region still remained responsible for the financial viability of the additional equipment and infrastructure that was installed.
As the merger has progressed very smoothly to this point it was felt that the description of the working group should be more indicative of the demographics of the area and therefore the combined committee should now be known as the GSRF (Greater Sharonlea Residents Forum).
This will also accommodate the inclusion of other areas of Sharonlea should they also wish to join the current infrastructure in future.
You may have noticed that the community notice boards have been updated to reflect this change and additional boards have also been installed in the Upper areas.
It must be emphasised that the legal entity in terms of the companies act still remains as the (Central Sharonlea Residents Forum) which is the registered NPC.
I trust this communication brings clarity to all residents with regards to notices and other correspondence,
