Sharonlea, a residential suburb in Johannesburg, is pioneering the way in which cameras are used to protect its 600+ residential homes.
Already a firm believer in the benefits of surveillance cameras to monitor their various streets, the community through the home owners association GSRF, took the additional step to cover their perimeters along Malibongwe and President Fouche through the use of thermal cameras.
Thermal technology detects the presence of body heat and coupled with analytics software provided by their long time surveillance partner ensures greater efficiency in detecting persons or vehicles in this densely vegetative area.
As the internal cameras in the suburb has greatly reduced crime, criminals were using the extensive greenbelt to gain entrance to the residents properties from Malibongwe. This was identified, the solution designed and implemented.
To ensure the cameras connect seamlessly across the 3KM distance, the provider installed a complete fibre network around the suburb terminating in the main server node.
The solution is monitored 24/7 by a dedicated off site monitoring company, OSM (Pty) Ltd, that liaises with security providers in the suburb and monitors their reaction and response on behalf of the community.
Their long standing surveillance partner, Acquired Business Solutions (Pty) Ltd, is again the main funder of the project.
The GSRF committee wish to thank the contributors to the camera project for their continued support that allows them to create this safe environment.
